The Diary of a Work Experience Student – Sinéad Kinsella

Sinead Kinsella

As I started my week long placement with Aodhán on Monday, March 4th, nervous was not the word. When I walked up the stairs in his constituency office I was terrified as I didn’t know what to expect.

I quickly was introduced to everyone in the office and began to learn how the life of a TD works.

My first outing with Aodhán was after lunch on Monday when I attended a committee meeting in Pavee Point, an organisation which supports travellers. The meeting was in relation to education, which is something Aodhán is very passionate about and this was evident in this meeting.

When I got home that evening I was genuinely excited about the days to come.

The rest of the week certainly didn’t disappoint, I was given the opportunity to experience so many different things from making and delivering leaflets to sitting in on Dáil committees. It was a real eye opener to see how the system works.

I learnt so much in the past week, not only about working in a TD’s office but also just about working life as a whole. The experiences I gained while working with Deputy Ó Ríordáin and his team are something that I will take with me for a long time in the future.
